The Boylan Centre – UPDATE

Boylan Centre January 2025 UPDATE:

The Boylan Centre was sold by the Catholic Church to Dún Laoghaire County Council in June 2023, with the aim to hopefully assist in the housing crisis. It is located on here on Sussex St.

The DLCRA wrote to all seven of the local county councillors as well as the directors of housing, the county architect, the Senior Architect Bob Hannon, the Cathaoirleach Dennis O’Callaghan and other council officials expressing our hope that the newly acquired property would be used to add social and affordable housing, preferably with an element for essential workers. You can see our letter here.

The Director of Housing Catherine Keenan wrote a response, which you can see here.

In the Irish Times on the 18th of January 2025, the then Minister of Education Norma Foley, was recorded as saying that the Minister of Housing was working on legislation to enable county councils to put aside “significant accommodation for key local workers.”

We wrote to the Director Housing in DLRCC again hoping that they could consider Minister Foleys comments, see our letter here.

DLRCC responded saying that the development of the Boylan Centre is in its infancy and the tenure mix has not yet been decided. “.. the council has had no instruction or direction at this time from the Dept of Housing”.

Harbour Master Plan

Dun Laoghaire County Council is currently looking for submissions on the Harbour masterplan that it is working on.

The closing date for the consultation is the 23rd of October, to give people a better idea of what a Master Plan looks like, the scope of a plan and what an example submission looks like, we have 3 documents that people might find useful.

To make a submission, please go to the DLRCC consultation page here.

Online Advice from an Garda Síochána

The Gardaí were generous enough to have given the DLCRA two documents that we believe will be very useful everyone. One of them is a report on the 3 most common types of fraud that are taking place at the moment and ways to avoid being a victim. These include Payment Fraud, Email fraud and Phone Fraud. You can see a copy of the report here.

The other document the Gardaí have given us is a handy guide to the golden rules of safe online shopping. You can find it here.

You can find a soft copy of all our newsletters, including our newest issue on our Newsletters page.
